Topic: Consumer Research for R&D

Market or consumer research is a very important part of development for all company’s products or services. Understanding your consumers and putting them at the center of what you’re offering is important so you can continue to give them the things that they will purchase and enjoy. There are several different methods and types of research to help with any step of the process of bringing a product or service from ideation to the store.

Research is especially important when it comes to the development process. If the consumer and their preferences or opinions are not at the center of what it is you’re developing, then there is no way to tell if you are making something that they will buy. It’s very important to understand your consumer in a detailed and personal way so that you know why they make the decisions they make and how you can meet their needs in the future.

This session will explore the basics of consumer research and what it means to include research in your development process. In addition to this, we will discuss the different studies that you can perform with consumers and what a typical timeline would look like for these projects. Lastly, we will go through the different times that consumer research is needed during the R&D process. After this session, you can take this knowledge back to your company and begin to implement the studies in order to keep the consumer at the center of what you create.
